Bricky is a unique hand-held bricklaying tool designed to assist in laying mortar between courses of bricks and blocks. It leaves a perfectly level bed of mortar and precise 10mm (3/8 inch) spacings are assured.
The beauty of the tool is that productivity can be increased by those professionals who use it on an everyday basis, but will also be of great assistance to the DIY enthusiast in building a perfect wall that will look like it had been achieved by a master craftsman.
In tests Bricky has shown increases in productivity of up to 300%. A qualified bricklayer can lay around 600 bricks a day, but by using Bricky this amount of bricks can be laid in just two hours!

How does it work?

The Bricky is laid on each course of bricks or blocks. Mortar is then smeared freely into the cut away section of the tool. This leaves a perfectly level bed of mortar with precise 10mm (3/8 inch) spacings. The brick or block is then laid on top of the mortar. A vertical guide is then placed at the end of each brick and the mortar is plastered into the guide to secure the vertical joint. The wall is perfectly pointed, mortar wastage is virtually eliminated and no mortar falls in the cavity during cavity wall construction.

Bricky has already won major international awards. The ‘Oscar de L’Invention’ was awarded at Europe’s largest inventing show in Geneva in 2001 as the best invention at the show – as well as scooping the best construction invention. An Award for Excellence was also given at the world’s largest invention show – INPEX in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA in May 2001. The ‘International Gold Medal’ was awarded at the Tomorrow’s World Inventors Show in London, England in May 2001.

I bought one of these about a 3rd way through building my quite large garage. This was my first attempt at bricklaying and to be honest went really well (friends have been impressed how good it looks). Now as a complete novice I found it very hard to get a good even/equal bed of mortar down to lay the brick on. This to me seems would come with a lot of experience and is a bit of an art (unless you want to have lots of waste) - it's all in the wrist action!! I used the Bricky to lay a brick veneer on the foundation for a house I am building. Follow the guide below to see how to lay brick with the Bricky tool
Place on the Bricky. Place the closed end of the tool at the beginning of each course - this ensures a perfect square bed of mortar at each end or corner section of the wall.	Fill central channel with mortar and use the trowel to level off.
Now reverse the direction of the tool; slide it along the wall while scraping the mortar into the channel as you progress. Ensure each brick is directly in line with the previous row.	Because the tool is fitted with two level vials, you have now laid a perfect bed of mortar along the wall.	Place the brick, gently pressing into the bed of mortar until a firm bond is secured.
Place the vertical tool on the end of the brick.	With a dab of mortar on the end of the trowel, plaster in the vertical joint.	Slide the trowel up along the guide to remove any excess.
Gently place the next brick against the guide.	Remove the guide.	Gently press the brick into both the horizontal and vertical bed of mortar to secure a firm bond. Perfectly spaced joints, pointed to perfection.
